In this the first edition of the journal IBD Reviews we have the privilege of sharing with all the medical community the birth of the association with PANCCO, with the focus in the study of this group of ever-changing disorders that have no permanent drug cure and can result in significant long-term morbidity. Although the factors that contribute to the development of inflammatory bowel disease remain elusive, it has long been considered a problem of Western societies, with the Western lifestyle largely contributing to its pathogenesis. The incidence of inflammatory bowel disease is now rising in developing countries and is increasingly considered an emerging global disease. Despite limited epidemiological data from developing nations, it is now clear that both the incidence and prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease are increasing worldwide. With this knowledge in mind, we created the present journal.
